Return to Tiger Bay…

…and no sign of Hayley Mills.

Newport Transporter Bridge

One of the major landmarks in our neck of the woods is the Newport Transporter Bridge. Opened in September 1906 and now in its last season of operation before undergoing restoration works. Also starring Hayley Mills, the bridge starred in the 1959 film Tiger Bay (hence the title of this post), which is available to watch on YouTube.

Due to COVID its 2020 operating season only started today. As the weather was nice and the bridge had reopened the opportunity was taken to take Lizzie out for a spin across the Usk. Lizzie was the first car to be carried on the bridge in 2020.

I would like to say thank you to the staff and volunteers who look after the bridge. They were very helpful in allowing some extra time to take some of these photos. Please visit their facebook page for further details on the dates of operation.

The following image is a screengrab from the film Tiger Bay showing the Gondola in the process of travelling West to East across the river Usk. This piece of film was recorded just to the right of the position in the photo above.
