Out with the car club and other updates

It’s been a while since the last update but that does not mean Lizzie has not been getting any attention. The following jobs have been done:

  • A “new” AA badge was purchased at a local auction before the December lockdown. This was refurbished in order to replace the one Lizzie had when we purchased her. As far as we are aware the old badge has been with Lizzie for a number of years (if not decades) so is historically significant so will be safely kept in the house.
  • A refurbished Track Control Arm has been fitted to the offside front.
  • New bearings have been fitted to the offside front
  • The yearly service and inspection have been carried out.

A couple of runs have been made when we could, just to keep things working and to test some of the work mentioned above but these are insignificant compared to the Drive It day on the 9th of May

The full days drive, 153 miles

The official run started off at Llansoy and ended up at the Brecon Beacons visitors center via the Sennybridge ranges and many places besides. Some of the route was covered last August in our “Tour of Wales”. Total mileage from the house to the house was just over 153 miles, the highest daily mileage she has done so far in our ownership.

Given some of the climbs involved, Lizzie kept up very well, given that she was surrounded by Porches, a BMW, a Merc, an MG, a couple of Triumphs, a Lancia, and a Riely. For the best part of the drive, she was lead car of the pack (baring two others), and when the drive finished she was complimented on her ability to set a good pace. Not bad work for a 65-year-old 1172cc side-valve engine. and good work by our son, who was navigating, one wrong turn and that was the driver’s fault!
