Out and about and a small surprise

Lockdown has been a difficult time, what with having to remain at home, homeschooling, furloughing and such. However, something that continues to lift our spirits, as well as those who see us out and about (judging by the smiles and waves we receive), is Lizzie.

A recent local trip was had to the village of Tredunnock, about 4 miles as the crow flies from our home location. The purpose of the trip was to blow away some cobwebs and to provide us with some cooling air (this was during the recent hot spell).

Tredunnock is only a few houses, a church and a well and could be described as tranquil. It was next to the well that we decided to stop and take some pictures.

In other news: today the postman/postwoman delivered an envelope from the Ford Sidevalve Owners Club within which was a pleasant surprise, an article and two Sidevalve magazines, one from December 1998 and one from December 2009.

The December 1998 edition included an article written by Lizzy’s original owner. The article contains a wealth of additional knowledge, such as the engine being swapped out in 1966, an engine overhaul in 1978, major bodywork in 1983 and a gearbox overhaul in 1993.

The December 2009 magazine includes a mention of Lizzie as appearing at the Port Sunlight car show of that year. An interesting piece of information is that the previous owner to us “had to get all these bodges rectified” and “is still dubious of covering any large distances”. After the fuel pump failing last year – I do share this feeling although this will disappear in time, especially when we do take increasingly longer drives, 52 miles being the longest so far.

I must thank Liam at the FSOC for sending this information to us, it all adds to the rich and known history of the car.
